If you want to play as an Elementalist, then make an Elementalist. Armor should not be the basis for a character class decision as armor does not affect (much) how you play. If you want to play as an Elementalist and make a N/E to do so, you are stuck with no options for your secondary, have no runes to boost the damage/duration/etc. of the skills, and do not gain access to the Primary Attribute (Energy Storage) which is used for many skills/builds.

Soul Reaping is a powerful, passive energy management tool, but many of the useful spells from Elementalist are not only high in energy (15 and 25), but also cause Exhaustion. Having a high energy pool is useful for when using the exhaustion causing skills and not running out, and also for using the high energy cost skills more frequently. Soul Reaping has a restriction on how quick you get that energy back, it isn't prefect.

Very few builds exist that use a secondary class as the focus. Most of those are PvP based ideas, and even there it is niche, not always useful. Think of the R/N using touch skills. For general use, they just aren't as good an option. You can succeed, definitely, but if you want to run at 100% make an Ele, otherwise you will be running at a much lower rate of efficiency.

you could do what you want and beat every area even without using skills as long as you got a good hero setup. id say go ahead you only gimp yourself a little but you can work around that and actually have a character with versatilty ive seen other go n/mo and used there necro for monking and do just as decent a job as a mo/x. it might be ideal for some but can be done and if your good youll make up for those who arent just expect a lot of critism if you join pugs most pugs dont care for differnt un pviwiki builds and thats what it sounds like your running but if you got a good guild who requirements arent as stringient youll be ok

Don't know why people say you can't be a good N/E. If you've got a MM along, and are in a party that's got good killing speed you'll be fine. Just take your attunement, GoLE and SoLS and go 12+1+1 SR and 12 of whatever element. Put like 3 into curses for enfeebling blood and weaken armour. SF works best for pve. Works well with H/H since you can choose the party.

Nightfall is best since it comes with Cynn who's gone SF. Go a fire SF, take a hero MM (run him with 16 death, 10 SR and 9 fire and have him run SF with animate minions), and bring two other SF eles. Take Cynn, mhenlo, khim and sogolon/herta. You'll have at least 2 wards vs melee on the two other eles, weakness and 5 copies of SF. As long as they burn, you'll clear everything and never have to stop once. Course this is for NM. For HM ele's aren't too flash anyway, so just switch to curses. Though you could drop one fire ele for a ToF para if you really want to do use eles in HM.

Thankyou last commenters! Some useful posts, although I think I will make an Ele, and just see how it goes.
